Drill:
In your notebooks write the step by step procedure
for creating the layers for our mountainscapes. Write
the steps for creating the following layers; sky, background,
middle ground, foreground, and one detail layer.
Lesson Objective:
Today we will create a color mountainscape that
illustrates the illusion of space, depth and color harmony
in order to gain a working knowledge of both the layers
palette and color picker in Adobe Photoshop. We will focus
on the foreground in order to change the perspective of
our space.

COLOR
HARMONY
12 part color wheel
Harmonious colors are colors that work well
together, that produce a color scheme that looks attractive;
the color wheel can be used as a valuable tool for determining
harmonious colors.
Some Formulas
for Color Harmony
There are many theories for harmony. The
following illustrations and descriptions present some
basic formulas .
A color scheme based on monochromatic
Colors
The monochromatic color scheme uses variations
in lightness and saturation of a single color.
A color scheme based on analogous
colors
Analogous colors are any three colors which are side by
side on a 12 part color wheel, such as yellow-green, yellow,
and yellow-orange. Usually one of the three colors predominates.
A color scheme based on complementary
colors
Complementary colors are any two colors which
are directly opposite each other, such as red and green
and red-purple and yellow-green. In the illustration above,
there are several variations of yellow-green and several
variations of red-purple in the leaves. These opposing
colors create maximum contrast and maximum stability.
Art Problem
Using the color schemes above create a color mountainscape
with a detailed foreground. Use either a monochromatic
or analogous color scheme to create the foundation layers
(foreground, middle ground and background). Use a complementary
color scheme to create the detailed leaves in the foreground.
